Category: Civic Challenges with a Redemptive Lens
What’s the problem?
Pune’s ever-growing traffic congestion has become one of the city’s biggest daily stress points. Even for believers, the commute often becomes a zone of frustration rather than an opportunity for reflection, prayer, or gospel-centered living. There’s little intentional witness of Christ on the road, in the cabs, autos, or buses where hundreds spend hours each week.
In #HACK Pune 2024, one team tried to tackle this challenge through a project that predicted arrival time between any two points in Pune using Google Maps APIs, aiming to reduce travel uncertainty and help users redeem their commute time better.
Why is this a problem?
- Stress during commute spills into relationships and productivity at work, home, and church.
- Time is wasted that could be redeemed for prayer, worship, or gospel reflection.
- Christians lose visibility in the public square where the city “waits together.”
- Faith doesn’t seem relevant to everyday civic frustrations.
- Opportunities for redemptive tech solutions are missed, where believers could offer peace amid chaos.
What happens if we don’t solve this?
- Commuters remain spiritually disengaged, wasting 3–4 hours daily in mental noise.
- The Church fails to witness in a space shared by millions daily.
- People develop unhealthy patterns of consumption, anger, or isolation during travel.
- Christians miss out on daily mission moments like praying for people around them
- Tech-savvy Christians don’t build tools to serve their city in one of its greatest pain points.
