What’s the problem?
With the rapid rise of AI tools like ChatGPT, image generators, video creators, and voice synthesis, Churches and Christian creators have started experimenting with AI to make sermon slides, Bible summaries, content scripts, worship visuals, and more. But this adoption is happening without clear ethical guidelines, theological grounding, or missional discernment.
There is also little awareness of AI biases, hallucinations, or misrepresentation of Scripture which could lead to doctrinal errors, misinformation, or even unintended harm. At the same time, there’s immense redemptive potential in using AI wisely: reaching the unreached, contextualizing the gospel, and resourcing the Church faster.
Why is this a problem?
- Church leaders and creators often lack AI literacy, leading to either blind adoption or fearful rejection.
- AI may reinforce consumer-driven Christianity rather than authentic discipleship.
- Theological errors can creep in, especially when AI-generated summaries of Scripture go unreviewed.
- Christian voice and witness in tech spaces remains underdeveloped, leaving the global Church behind.
- Lack of shared frameworks or best practices creates fragmentation and confusion.
- Younger creators adopt AI rapidly, but older leaders don’t know how to disciple or regulate its use.
What happens if we don’t solve this?
- Churches may unintentionally spread shallow or incorrect theology.
- The body of Christ becomes tech-dependent but spiritually weak.
- AI becomes a crutch instead of a tool, replacing Spirit-led discernment with instant output.
- The opportunity to lead in ethical, redemptive innovation is lost while secular forces set the tone.
