Category: Civic Challenges with a Redemptive Lens
What’s the problem?
In several areas of Pune, especially in under-resourced and rapidly urbanizing zones, residents are unaware of the quality of water they consume daily. While contamination levels may rise due to seasonal shifts, pipeline issues, or local waste mismanagement, there is no community-level system to alert or educate people in real time. This is especially dangerous for children, the elderly, and those already vulnerable to illness. There is no accessible dashboard or community tool that links water safety to practical health habits.
Churches and faith-based groups present in nearly every urban pocket rarely step into such civic issues despite their reach and trust.
Why is this a problem?
- Physical health is at risk: Poor water leads to increased cases of diarrhea, and other diseases.
- Healthcare burden increases: Treating avoidable illness strains families and public clinics.
- Spiritual opportunities are missed: The Church, beacon of love and service, stays silent.
- No early warning system: Residents only realize the issue when symptoms appear.
What happens if we don’t solve this?
- Health crises will repeat, especially during monsoons or civic disruptions.
- Distrust grows in public systems and between communities.
- Churches remain disengaged from public welfare and holistic mission.
- Communities suffer unnecessarily, when simple tech solutions could help.
